LESLIE TING, Violin

A native of Kitchener, Ontario, Leslie is a laureate of the Concours de l’Orchestre de l’Université de Montréal, and performed S. Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with conductor Jean-François Rivest in 2010. Other performances as soloist include Astor Piazzolla's Four Seasons with Ensemble Arkea in Montreal and W.A. Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with violist Christine Vlajk of the Penderecki String Quartet and the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra.

Leslie strives for a varied musical life. She joined the Bicycle Opera Project for their 2013 summer tour, will be presenting recitals in with Vancouver-based pianist, Sarah Hagen in the Fall of 2013, and is the newest member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.

An avid chamber musician, Leslie has performed in London, England as a member of the Adoch Trio with Hiro Takenouchi, piano and Dongkyun An, cello. Strad magazine praised the ensemble for creating "fire without smoke." She has since shared the stage with Paul Neubauer, Scott St John and Paul Watkins.

Other performances have included on-stage theatrical productions in Montreal and Switzerland. Leslie also composed and performed original music for the short film Knife by Montreal-based filmmaker Nancy Baric which has screened in the US, Canada and Russia.

Leslie holds a Master of Music degree and an Artist Diploma from Université de Montréal, and has worked with various artists at the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and the Kayaleh Academy in Switzerland.

Leslie is also an alumnus of the University of Waterloo where she obtained Bachelor of Honours Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees. She was a practicing optometrist from 2005-2007 during which she traveled to Anna Regina, Guyana as a volunteer optometrist with Canadian Vision Care. She is currently developing a multi-media performance piece that explores the role of vision in empathy and communication with the support of the Ontario Arts Council and the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund.
