Italian for "Morning Music", Mattina Musica is a 6-concert series of classical music taking place on select Monday mornings. Patrons are warmly invited to meet in the Sid lobby at 9:45 am for tea, coffee, and conversation before the 10:30 am concert.
Co-presented by the Sid Williams Theatre Society and pianist Sarah Hagen, the series includes performances by cellist Ariel Barnes (September 14), a solo recital by Sarah Hagen (October 26), clarinettist François Houle (December 7), violist Marcus Takizawa (February 1), a "jazsical" programme with jazz pianist Søren Bebe (March 7), and a grand finale of duets with soprano Anne Grimm and tenor Benjamin Butterfield (April 18). The musicians, all known for their perceptive, eloquent and entertaining commentary, will take time to offer personal insights into the music.
This concert features Sarah in a solo performance. Her programme is based on birds and birdsong, and other creatures that fly... It includes works by Beethoven and Chopin and a few quirky treats.
